NC Association for Home & Hospice Care Awards Local Doctor
Outer Banks Hospital Press Release –
Dr. Christine Petzing, Dare Home Health & Dare Hospice Medical Director, was recently recognized as the Physician of the Year by the North Carolina Association for Home & Hospice Care (AHHC). Petzing was nominated by Ellie Ward, Nursing Director with Dare Home Health & Dare Hospice.
“Dr. Petzing is a deeply spiritual person and really understands the relationship dynamics in counseling patients and their families,” said Ward. “She is a rare and exceptional human being with the ability to combine her intellect and medical expertise with her intuitive and accurate ‘read’ on patient and family care situations.”
Petzing was presented the award at the annual AHHC Convention and Exposition in Raleigh. “I am overwhelmed,” said Petzing. “I’m a champion of hospice care when the timing is right. Hospice is a choice which provides dignity and closure for both the patient and their loved ones.”
Petzing moved to the Outer Banks in 2011 to accept a position as a hospitalist with The Outer Banks Hospital. Previously, she worked in a family practice in Galesburg, Illinois, for eight years, before relocating to Nags Head, where she, her husband, Lou, and her brother, Donald, live.
Petzing works closely with Dr. Christina Bowen, who serves as the back-up Hospice Medical Director with Dare Hospice. Both physicians, board-certified in hospice and palliative care, are intrinsic to Dare Hospice’s interdisciplinary team, which ensures that the best possible care, services and support are provided for individuals with a life-limiting illness.
“Our hospice simply cannot envision a more engaged and involved Medical Director,” added Ward. “We couldn’t be more thankful, awe-inspired or proud to have her as an integral part of our team.”
The Association for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina is a non-profit trade association which represents more than 800 home care and hospice agencies.
