Ooooohhhh! It’s a scary time of the year and the ghost, goblins and hauntings seem to stalk our every step. We can’t warn you about every place to avoid, but here are some of the haunted trails we found on the Outer Banks this Halloween.

A Haunting We Will Go
Join Dare County Parks and Recreation, the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and the Outer Banks Public Safety Auxiliary for the first Annual “A Haunting We Will Go”. Enjoy FREE games, crafts, hay rides and the ONLY glow in the dark “Egg Haunts” on the Outer Banks. There are three ages groups for the egg “haunts”: Ages 3-6 “Egg Scramble” (not scary) at 5 p.m., Ages 7-10 “Egg Howl” (a little scary) at 6 p.m. and Ages 11 & up “Fright Find” (VERY SCARY) at 7 p.m. Food vendors will be on site selling food.

The Darkness – A Haunted Trail in Wanchese
The Darkness is haunting the woods in Wanchese this Halloween, the newest scary attraction in the area celebrating the spookiest time of year this month. The haunted trail is open every Thursday through Saturday in October, from dusk until 11pm.

Evening Lantern Tours: Draped in Black; Victorian Death Rituals
Join costumed interpreters on a night-time tour into the home of a grieving widow. Experience unique and peculiar ways Victorian families mourned the loss of a loved one. Listen to stories of the farm’s former residents and travel by lantern light to their final resting place in the family graveyard.

Creepy in Corolla
The Whalehead Club in historic Corolla and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse co-host a one-night-only event. Take a ghostly tour through the Whalehead Club, then walk through the darkness to the lighthouse for a frightening climb and a trick or treat at the top! Kids 5 years and younger are FREE. All proceeds benefit Waters Edge Village School.
